Jeremy Katz has served as High Holiday Hazzan for congregations in places as diverse as Louisville, Providence, Lake Carmel, Nantucket, Tokyo, and New York City.
He studied nusach as a teenager with the renowned Cantor Lawrence Avery of Beth El Synagogue in New Rochelle. His father is a former pulpit rabbi and the former chaplain of Montefiore Hospital. His grandfather, a jeweler by trade, had a high holiday post well into his eighties.
Jeremy performed in musicals in high school, founded Kol B’Yachad, Brown University’s first Hebrew acapella group, and led a musical tour of Greece, Egypt and Israel for the university chorus after graduation.
In his early years working in FinTech and living on the Upper West Side, he conducted and arranged music for the a capella group Neranena. Jeremy plays violin, guitar, piano, and shamisen. His other passions include baseball, fixing broken stuff, home agriculture, and canoeing with his wife Loren and children Julian, Tamar, and Yael.
